Hot "Cakes" on a Stick

Yes, this is play on words of one of my favorite mall foods of all times. No, I am not talking about pancakes on a stick... can you imagine the mess! I am talking about cake pops, the next trend in novelty baked goods following on the heels of the cupcake. Cake pop mania was launched by Bakerella, a blog-site dedicated to all things baked and sweet. I must admit, when I first heard about these, I was a little skeptical. I thought, "How can you one-up the cupcake?" The perfect size and the cake to buttercream ratio is unbeatable. However, yesterday I received a box of my very own cake pops from my friend who is related to the owner of popcakes, an online business  that creates and sells these trendy treats. And I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. The cake on the inside is so moist as it has been crumbled up and mixed with canned frosting, then formed into a little ball and covered in chocolate. What a lethal combo! In my opinion, cupcakes will never be dethroned as my favorite form of cake, but I am willing to make room for my new friend the cake pop. But I swear... I will recant my position if they ever deep fry them and serve them with lemonade at the mall.
